Everything Everywhere All At Once

Yes, 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' is that good - utpolunderground

This was my second time seeing this film, once in theaters and the other in class. The first time I saw it, I thought it was good but I had a lot of confusion. I kept getting hung up on the really strange aspects and not fully absorbing the message. The hotdog fingers, ketchup and mustard coming out of mouths, those men getting the award stuck in their assholes, etc. I just thought it was such a weird choice and I couldn't take the serious moments seriously. The second time I watched it, in class, I felt I truly understood why it won best picture at the Oscars. This might have been because I already knew of the weird aspects and could really give my attention to the sentimental scenes. I had heard of a lot of people getting emotional watching the film and when I first watched it, I couldn't understand why everyone was crying. I found myself in class tearing up and that's when I realized I understood. There are so many lessons pact in this story and all of them just leave you wide eyed in your seat, feeling moved and overwhelmed.

This film's editing was so similar to Swiss Army Man, it was so clear that both films were directed by the same people. I don't think I've ever seen such defining aspects of a directors artistic style until I saw these movies. Both movies give you a lot to unpact, have absurd moments that make you uncomfortable, have the same cinematographic look, and are edited with the same fast/ slow motion editing features at parts. It's films like these that really make me look at film for what it is: art. Every aspect was working together to create a mastepiece and I'm so glad I saw this film for a second time. I happen to know this film won a lot of awards and I feel all of them were well deserved...accept one. Might be an unpopular opinion but I don't think Jamie Lee Curtis should have won Best Supporting Actress. I tried watching the film this time around and see how everyone won the Oscar and I completely understood accept Curtis's win. I felt she didn't have that difficult of a role. Even the fighting scenes weren't Oscar worthy, meaning the regular scenes where she is acting as the normal tax worker couldn't have been the stand out. I felt the woman who portrayed Joy should have won the award if it was going to go to someone from the film's cast.

Overall, I loved how the film progressed and the lessons it portrayed. It was such a cool moment to be sitting in class, feeling the overall vibe of the room just being engrossed in the story. I just love how film has the power to bring everyone together like this. It reminded me why I love going to the theater so much. Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan were two of the most well deserved actors to win any awards this season, for they were a FORCE. The emotion and specific type of chemistry between the two fit perfectly with the story. I really grasped the charcater of Waymond this time watching it and felt a sense of need to live life like him. I understood the scenes of him being overly joyed about the littlest of things more the second time and it was like the sky opening up. That following with Evelyn's relaization that Becky is that for Joy and becoming accepting was my favorite part of the whole movie. Truly no matter what life you end up leading, "extraordinary" or not, it is made up by who you spend it with. I love that Evelyn let go of this regret of not living any of the extraoridanry lives from other universes and learned to appreciate running the Laundry Mat with people she loves.
